Drum roll
please…
I’ve set a goal
to run a 5K in late October! For those of you that know me, you may be laughing
hysterically at your computer screen right now. Truth is, I don’t think I’ve
ever ran more than 1.5 miles (consecutively) in my life. Granted, I did play
sports, I do go to the gym every now and then, and I’m not an unhealthy person.
I just hate to run. I hate the feeling of not being able to breathe combined with
feeling like I’m literally about to die. Yep, just not my
idea of happiness, relaxation, or regeneration (words I’ve heard others say
when they describe running). So, why did I come to the conclusion that I should
attempt a 5K? Well the story goes, one of my friends and fellow Coastie wife, told
me about this run called the Zombie 5K.
That’s right
zombies… I mean who’s not obsessed with The Walking Dead right now??
Number one,
how cool is that? Number two, the idea of running becomes secondary to the fact
that I am being chased by flesh eating crazies. Now if that’s not motivation, I
don’t know what is. It also turns out that, not only are there zombies, but
there are obstacles to complete before crossing finish line. I talking about,
climbing rope, hanging from monkey bars, and crawling through dark tunnels to
just name a few. Yes, it appears I’m in for a heck of a 5K, I can only hope I
survive this apparent apocalypse!
Maybe I was
a little over-ambitious for my first 5K, but I do love a good challenge. Plus,
I have started to “train” for the run which I am hoping will spawn new, healthy
habits in my life. I really would like to enjoy running, but right now that
still seems out of reach. So, I will continue to train, and be sure to keep you
all posted on the run.
In the
meantime, take a look at the website…
Zombie 5K
So glad we are doing the Zombie 5k together! Go Coastbusters!!
ReplyDeleteI'm training for a 5K, too! Are you using any program, or just going out & running?
ReplyDeleteJust going out and running right now. But I'm thinking about the whole "Couch to 5k" thing might work better. I can run a mile, but after that I just want to stop!
ReplyDeleteI downloaded the free "couch to 5k" app on my phone and really like using it, but didn't make it through the full 8 or 10 weeks that it has. I think it was too fast for me to jump from running a min, walk a min... to run 30 min. You'll do fine with it though and now that you have the motivation!
